These are some pictures of the process of building a retaining wall to replace an old one made of railroad ties. (Sully, the former owner, worked for the railroad for many years.) That one had been there for probably over 30 years and was starting to get pretty decrepit. Still, most of the ties were good and we reused some of them for the top of the new one.
We used old style block on top of a rebar reinforced footing, shaped to direct drainage down the driveway. The photos that follow should provide all needed details.
